Is LegacyBox a One-Time Payment?
What's actually one-time
LegacyBox's own support documentation confirms what you get back: “In your completed Legacybox, you will find your original tapes, reels, and/or photos, along with your new digital files on the storage options that were selected at the time of purchase.” If you selected a thumb drive or DVD/CD set, that copy is yours the moment it arrives — no subscription, no recurring fee to keep possession of it. (But with hidden usability caveats you may not be aware of.)
What isn't
Every LegacyBox order automatically includes a free 30-day trial of LegacyBox Cloud. After that, it's a recurring subscription — LegacyBox's own Terms of Service confirm charges can be “monthly or annual,” billed automatically unless you cancel. LegacyBox Cloud is currently priced at $4.99/month on their own product page. Cancel, and LegacyBox's Terms of Service state plainly that “user data and its backups will be removed from our storage servers” and “all of your data will be deleted.”

The catch nobody leads with
Owning the disc isn't the same as being able to use it. The one format that actually plays back reliably on modern devices — Cloud — is the one you're renting, not owning. So the honest framing isn't "one-time" or "subscription." It's: what you own, you often can't use easily. What you can use easily, you don't own.
