In Sony Music Entertainment v. Cox Communications, Inc. (2026), the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that service providers cannot be held liable for user infringement simply by knowing that some users might misuse the service. Liability requires proof that the provider intended its service to be used for infringement. Service Provider operates as a neutral service provider with substantial legitimate uses.
